We are four joiners, one bench each, in a stone mill outside Ripon. Everything leaves this building measured by hand, cut by hand and finished by the same person who drew it. Nothing is subbed out, and nothing is bought in flat.

A full set of drawings before a single cut
Every commission starts as a scaled drawing and a timber sample you can hold. You sign off the grain, the finish and the handle before we touch a board.
Cut by hand
Joints that hold without a screw
Mortice and tenon, hand-cut dovetails, draw-bored pegs. Machines rough the stock out; the joint itself is always finished at the bench.
Fitted by us
The maker is the fitter
The joiner who built your piece is the one scribing it to your wall. Old houses are never square — that is exactly why we don't hand it to a fitting crew.
Six things we do properly, and nothing we don't
If a commission would be better made by somebody else — a stonemason, a metalworker, a kitchen retailer — we will tell you that in the first hour rather than the twelfth week.

Four stages, no surprises
Most of a commission is decided before any timber is cut. This is the order we work in, and roughly what each stage costs you in time.
Bench time is booked roughly one season ahead. If your kitchen has to be in before Christmas, the conversation needs to happen by July.
They told us our first idea was wrong and drew a better one for free. Two years on, not a single door has dropped.

Free surveys within 45 miles of Ripon. Beyond that — up to roughly York, Leeds, Kendal and Newcastle — we charge a one-off survey fee that comes straight off the commission if you go ahead.
